Data Engineer
Reporting To: Senior Data Scientist
Salary: £40,000
Location: Hybrid working (1 day per month in Stoke office)
Purpose of the Role
As part of the Data Science and Insight Team, you will be responsible for providing data-driven solutions, often in the form of predictive models, to support decision-making for the business and its customers. You will manage and build the data infrastructure, ensuring best practices are implemented for storing and processing large-scale data sets, ultimately supporting the team and other stakeholders in their data needs.

Responsibilities
Key Areas
- Cloud Infrastructure: Manage and maintain the cloud-based infrastructure (Azure), ensuring it meets the needs of the team and the business, while being resilient and secure.
- Data Pipelines: Build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and code repositories, focusing on effective automation.
- Data Storage and Provisioning: Work with the team to design optimal data storage and provisioning solutions, including streaming, ETL, and data processing patterns.
- Quality Advocate: Promote and maintain high standards in data management and code repositories.

Skills and Experience Required
- Data Preparation & Modelling: Experience in building ETL pipelines.
- Machine Learning: Familiarity with machine learning techniques, platforms, and pipelines.
- MS-SQL: Extensive experience with MS-SQL databases and script writing.
- Azure Expertise: Strong understanding of Azure services (e.g., Blob storage, Virtual Machines, Data Lake Analytics) and environments.
- Security & Privacy: Knowledge of security-by-design and privacy-by-design principles.
- Programming: Proficient in Python and familiar with containerized software development.
- Problem-Solving: Strong technical problem-solving abilities.
- SQL and NoSQL: Experience with both for ETL tasks.
- Cloud Data Management: Experience building and maintaining live cloud data lakes and warehouses (desirable).
- Tools: Experience with Matillion and Snowflake ecosystems (desirable but not essential).
- Linux: Familiarity with Linux OS (desirable).
- Machine Learning Deployment: Experience deploying machine learning models (desirable).
